Wireless Setup

  1. Open a web browser and go to http://192.168.1.1/admin
  2. Click on the Wireless link.
  3. Ensure the Enable Wireless box is checked.
  4. Set the SSID to your desired wireless network name. This name will show up when you search for wireless networks.
  5. Click Apply/Save
  6. Click on the Security link.
  7. From the Select SSID dropdown menu, select the SSID name created in step 5.
  8. From the Network Authentication dropdown menu, select your preferred wireless security type:
    • Open is unsecure, not requiring a password or key. NOT RECOMMENDED.
    • Shared (commonly known as WEP) uses less secure wireless passwords or keys and is quickly broken using the right software tools. Use only with much older devices (2003 and older) that do not support the newer and more secure WPA security types. NOT RECOMMENDED.
    • 802.1X, WPA, WPA2, and Mixed WPA2/WPA require a separate piece of equipment called a "radius server" to connect devices, making them less convenient. PSK (Pre-Share Key) versions do NOT require a radius server, making them more common for home use.
    • WPA-PSK is widely compatible, but is less secure than the newer WPA2-PSK type.
    • WPA2-PSK is the most secure of the shared key types, but may not be supported by devices older than 2006.
    • Mixed WPA2/WPA-PSK is backwards compatible with most older devices, but is less secure than WPA2-PSK only mode.
  9. Uncheck the Use Base MAC Address as WPA/WAPI Passphrase option
  10. Enter your desired WPA/WAPI passphrase (or Network Key if Shared was selected), this will be your wireless password.
  11. Click Apply/Save.
